Storytime Explorers

August 26 - 30, 2019

Boys & Girls Ages 4-8

Read - Dance- Create

ONCE UPON A TIME, in a land not far from where you stand right now, there was a summer arts camp where children from all over the region came to learn, play and grow.

Neglia Ballet's Storytime Explorers is a creative arts summer camp (ages 4-8) connecting stories, art, music, movement and fun! Our talented staff create a nurturing environment for children to apply their imaginations. Over the course of a week, children will read children's books, create costumes, scenery and dances allowing them to retell a story, together, in their own way. At the end of the week, parents will be invited to a special performance and reception to watch their child's creativity come to life!

This year camp is lead by dance instructor Mary Grace Sullivan and storybook illustrator Bronwen Battaglia.

COST: $199 - includes daily snack and signed copy of Miss Egret Regrets book

LOCATION: Neglia Ballet Studios, 6th Floor of TriMain Center

DATES: August 26-30, 2019

TIME: 9:30am - Noon (drop off starts at 9:15, pick up by 12pm)

This summer, we will use the children's book Miss Egret Regrets - about a lovely but anxious Great Egret who needs the help of her marshland friends to navigate some tense situations. The various animal characters (turtle, ospreys, rabbits, and beavers, oh my!) will be brought to life by the children during the performance. As a special treat, Miss Egret's illustrator, Bronwen Battaglia will lead the art portion of the camp. Don't miss this unique experience to learn art from the illustrator herself! Signed copies of the book are included in the camp tuition.

About the instructors:

Bronwen Battaglia - ART

Bronwen is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. She has over 30 years of experience as a graphic designer. She enjoys coaching children and adults in their pursuit of making art in private and group lessons. Bronwen is the mother of three sons and spends her days on staff at Neglia Ballet and Marketing Tech, both in the TriMain Center in Buffalo, NY. She’s the illustrator of the children’s book Miss Egret Regrets. In her free time, she likes to cook, travel and watch movies with her husband and family.

Mary Grace Sullivan - DANCE

Mary Grace Sullivan is a second year MFA Dance student at the University of Buffalo.  Her teaching and choreographic practices are student/dancer-centered, providing an open environment for creativity, self-awareness and confidence to flourish. As a classically trained ballet and modern dancer, Mary keeps a rigorous practice of technique and form while incorporating contemporary elements of play and sematics which include improvisation, floorwork, and Bartenieff Fundamentals. This past year, Mary has choreographed several works for various venues. Feedback Loop: Art Practices in Constraint is a site-specific evening-length piece she conceived and directed but made in collaboration with dancers, musicians, and media artists. She set an original piece on eight undergraduate dancers titled, “Melody in our memories of night” as well as performed two duets and one trio that she co-choreographed with her fellow graduate students. Her latest work, “Minding Her Pockets” was performed in December 2018 on six undergraduate dance majors. She is currently working on a duet with Dahye Lee that will be performed in UB’s ChoreoLab this April. Mary is also a Core Dynamics Pilates teacher.
