Neglia Participates in the Inaugural Buffalo City Summer School for the Arts

For most serious dancers, July means one thing–summer intensives and workshops. While their peers are relaxing by the pool, dancers take advantage of the school break to fit in more dancing hours, often at full-day multi-week programs like Neglia’s annual Ballet Intensive. Thanks to a new program sponsored by the art department of Buffalo Public Schools, every student in Buffalo with an interest in dance has the opportunity to further their skills this summer through the new Buffalo City Summer School for the Arts.

Applicants in grades 7 – 12 from all over the city of Buffalo applied to participate in the BCSSA in one of five disciplines- visual arts, musical theater, dramatic writing, dance and multi-media arts.  Students selected for the dance program will take three hours of classes each day, including ballet technique with Neglia Ballet instructors. Over the course of the four week program, students will develop greater technique, strength, artistry and appreciation for the art of ballet, whether or not it is the main focus of their dance training.

We are thrilled to join the BCSSA for its inaugural year, giving more local students the chance to dance. Check back mid-way through July for an update and photos from the program! Learn more about our other in-school CityDance programs here.
